New "Office Chair" with MacGyver Modifications
written by Allan on November 04, 2009
I've needed a new office chair for a while.
Seating Requirements
Inexpensive, I am cheap. I didn't want to spend $1000 on a Herman Miller or some piece of plastic that my 6'4" 360 pound body would destroy in 2 months. So I looked at what I like to sit in. Living room style chairs that are firm.

The Problem
I need something with wheels for a hardwood floor so I can turn and move away from my desk to standup. These "man chairs" don't have wheels. hmmmmm

My Solution
I used a 2×4 from home depot and 4 casters. Casters are like the wheels you see on a shopping cart in the grocery store. I used some L-Brackets to reenforce some of the weak/cheap "wood" in the guts of the chair. The casters raise the chair about an inch. The legs don't actually touch the ground if you look closely.
I'm loving it!
Maybe you call this "ghetto", I call it crafty and comfortable!

Allan loves his family more than breathing. He lives in Panama City, Florida & grew up washing cars at his family's car washes. Oh and Allan hasn't worn underwear since 2004.

I’m still gonna have to file this under “ghetto”.
MacGyver would have put an engine in it so he could drive it down to the liquor store and back.
I call it ingenious, though MacGyver could have done it was rubber bands and paper clips.
It’s cool how your chair changed from brown in the first picture to red in the second. I must have one of these “mood chairs”.
Also, everyone seems to think they know what MacGyver would do. Is someone handing out WWMD bracelets?
Well they should be.
This is fantastic! I’m going to do this with my chase lounge, that way I can lay down on the job. I think I might go modern though and use clear inline skate wheels…
PS, I’m picking up my WWMD bracelet later today.
This is a MacGyver chair
